On 19th June 2020, Mr. P Jayaraj was arrested by the Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu) police for violating lockdown rules by keeping their mobile accessories shop open till 8:15 pm when the curfew was of 8 pm. His son Bennix (who is mistakenly being called fenix) along with his friend went to the police station to see his dad where he found that the policemen were beating him. When he objected, he was brought inside for inquiry while his friend, a lawyer, was asked to stay outside.
Both Jayaraj and Bennix were beaten brutally at the police station for hours. His friend says that he heard nothing but their screams for three hours in the police station, he was not allowed to go inside. They were being thrashed and sexually assaulted. Their knees were smashed and their face was shoved into the wall as they were beaten. They were made to strip down and were hit by rods. Rods were inserted inside of them and their genitilia was subjected to torture. Advocate Manimaran, who moved their bail petition said that the father and son had been bleeding so profusely, that they had to change as many as six lungis as each one was drenched in blood. Both of them passed away in a hospital a couple of days later.
The officers claim that they arrested both of them together because they claimed they will “kill the police” when they were asked to shut down their shops, the eye witnesses disagree. They also said that they died due to “heart attack and fever”. The two police officers involved were suspended. Protests broke in Tamil Nadu by over a 1000 people demanding justice for Jayaraj and Bennix in which some TN politicians also participated, some of the protestors were arrested with the charge of violation of lockdown rules. The Madras High court has ordered an enquiry of the case and videographed postmortem of their bodies.The family of the victims are given Rs. 50 lakh and government jobs have been promised to the family members.
The worst part is that this case has not been given importance by the mainstream media all over the country. Suchitra, an RJ for mirchi tamil, made an IGTV video about this in english because of which the case came into the knowledge of most north indians. It was treated as just another running news in the mainstream hindi/english new channels. We need to talk about this, we need to bring justice to them and their family because this is not the first time this has happened and if we don’t speak up, this will not be the last time. None of us are strangers to the fact that this actually happens alot. In fact, it has been so normalized that we even see it in mainstream movies and tv shows. You can get tortured, rape and killed in police custody in india even if you are innocent. Things are worse if you are poor, dark skinned, trans, dalit, or a part of any other minority group. And honestly, there is no guarantee that you, the one reading this, will never fall victim to it if you live in india. So please, talk about this, sign petitions, organize protests, do whatever you can to help and bring justice to them and the thousand others who have faced this for we the people possess the capability to change the system, we just have to take the first step.

phasma has spent like all her life in the first order, as a storm trooper. you ask any storm trooper ‘what would be the sexiest possible modification to your armor’ and none of them are going to say ‘cut a boob window’ they’re gonna say ‘plate it with something HARDCORE’.
